Two of Europe's major paper producers are finally set to tie the knot after a lengthy courtship. A date of 1 May 1996 has been set when Kymmene Corp., Repola Corp. and Repola's subsidiary United Paper Mills Ltd (UPM) will merge to form the largest forestry and paper products group in Europe (measured by net sales). The new corporate entity, UPM-Kymmene Corp., will control paper production of more than 7m. tpa located mainly in Finland, Germany, Prance and the UK. The group's net sales will exceed Fmk55,000m. (8,160m pounds.) of which the core pulp and paper operations will account for over 80 percent.
