Imerys 2012 profits up 2.3% thanks to emerging markets

World leading industrial minerals conglomerate Imerys SA announced a 2.3% increase in profits to 310m euros ($4l5m) for the full year 2012, while operating income grew marginally (0.6%) to 490m euros, in February. The groups total revenue for the year stood at 3.9bn euros, up 5.7% from3.7bn euros in 2011. The company also announced that it had begun the construction of a fused alumina plant in Bahrain, in which Imerys has a $30m stake as part of a joint venture with local company, Al Zayani Investments. "This [fused alumina] adds value for the abrasive and refractory industries through its hardness, mechanical strength and thermal stability," Imerys said. Operations at the plant are expected to start in late 2013, the company added.
