Fused magnesia (FM) sources remain limited worldwide {see map), despite positive demand outlook for refractory grades.Although there is litde on the horizon regarding new producers, there have been significant developments among existing players outside China to increase production capacities in order to meet rising demand from markets as well as to offer consumers a more stable alternative to Chinese FM sources.Also of note have been a number of ownership and leadership moves which have changed the corporate landscape. Already in 2012, two of the three main natural FM producers outside China have been acquired by new owners.
