Many remember 1967 for a variety of reasons: the Summer of Love; the release of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, by the Beatles; the first heart transplant; Wimbledon tennis was shown in colour on UK TV for the first time; China exploding its first hydrogen bomb; and Mrs Robinson seducing Dustin Hoffmann in The Graduate. For its part, Metal Bulletin chose that year to launch Industrial Minerals, effectively an extension of its single page report on non-metallic minerals. Non-metallic minerals? Certainly they were perceived (and occasionally still are) as the "third world" of the mining industry, far from the glamour of non-ferrous and precious metals mining.
