Tata Steel revives TiO_2 project

INDIA'S LEADING STEEL maker, Tata Steel, has revived its integrated titanium dioxide (TiO_2) project in Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu (TN), at an investment of Rs 20,000m.-25,000m. (496m. dollar-620m. dollar) The project is preparing for the production of 500,000 tpa of ilmenite initially, which will be increased to 1 m. tpa later. The project is likely to generate significant revenues for the company as the country currently imports 60,000-70,000 tpa of TiO_2. The consumption is expected to go up. The facility is expected to come on stream in mid-2008.
