摘要

The three-year Global Mining Initiative (GMI) culminated with the 'Resourcing for the Future' conference in Toronto from 12-15 May. Representatives from the mining industry, government and on-governmental organisations (NGOs) convened to discuss their common resolve for achieving sustainability in the industry. Many of the themes discussed were similar to those raised by Tom Albanese, Rio Tinto PLC's chief executive of industrial minerals, at this year's IM15 event in Paris. The non-metallic minerals industry now faces much of the same opposition previously reserved for metals, especially as metals producers add industrial minerals to their portfolio, and must strive for sustainable development.
