We are now halfway through the year and the real cost of the economic downturn is now beginning to be a lot clearer for industrial minerals companies. In May, IM attended MagMin 2013 in Oslo to catch up on magnesia markets. Here delegates heard forecasts for the near term (see p10) and also learned how China was looking to streamline its refractory business. There is a glimmer of hope, IM learned, but it is slight. This will of course have an effect on steel markets, as Laura Syrett discusses in this month's Refractories Hodine (p>22).
