Sulphur steals the show with most dramatic price gains

Sulphur prices have risen quickly over the last two months, and have tripled since December. The size and speed of the recovery in sulphur markets took many by surprise, and the price rises directly reflect the reduced availability of sulphur in the marketplace at the moment. Globally sulphur production going into 2010 was down, mainly due to lower oil and gas output. During 2010 sulphur production is predicted to pick up, especially as higher prices will attract more available supply into the market. By the end year, one Canadian analyst told EM, the market tightness will probably be alleviated.
