Welcome to the first edition of CIS Insight - aregular, quarterly report from Moscow on economic activity,industrial minerals news, and trade statistics within theCommonwealth of Independent States. As a sizeable producer,importer, and exporter of industrial minerals, events in the GIScan have repercussions for producers, processors, distributors,and consumers in both Central and Western Europe and furtherafield. Whilst the region undoubtedly still has many severeeconomic and political problems, there are nevertheless someinteresting opportunities in the minerals industry for investorswilling to take on a degree of risk. We believe that this newsection of IM will help highlight some of these opportunities andwill enable readers gain valuable insights into trends anddevelopments within the CIS industrial minerals sector.
