While Indonesia continues to be a weighty player in the global mining industry, with significant levels of exports of both metallic and non-metallic minerals, recent regulatory changes are impacting the industry and the environment for foreign investment. On the positive side, corporate social responsibility and environmental laws have been strengthened to protect Indonesian landscape, forests and citizens. These laws now require licence holders to demonstrate a greater level of oversight and responsibility for their operations.
