Cargill and IMC set for mega-merger

IN A MAJOR restructuring of the fertiliser industry, Cargill Crop Nutrition and IMC Global Inc. have announced the signing of a definitive agreement to combine their businesses into a new, as yet unnamed, New York Stock Exchange traded company. The deal, expected to close in the summer of 2004, would combine IMC Global's phosphate, feed phosphates and potash businesses with Cargill's phosphate, feed phosphates and nitrogen production and global distribution operations. Combined pro forma, trailing annual revenues would be an estimated 4,100m dollars. with combined assets of approximately 5,400m dollars.
