Since the shift from open hearth to basic oxygen process (BOP), steel making technology has undergone a gradual development driven by the demands for higher steel productivity and improved quality. The steel industry is the primary consumer of refractories (67-75%) and therefore the refractory industry has strived to keep up with changes and developments in the steel industry, through the development of new and modified products.
