PRODUCERS AND CONSUMERS of the refractory materials that are essential in a number of industries -from energy generation to cement, steel and chemical production - are facing increasing pressure to minimise costs through productivity and technological improvements. With mounting environmental legislation also adding to the demands, there is now a growing need for advanced control over refractory production, to achieve maximum efficiency. Controlling the particle size distribution of the refractory suspension is one key consideration and this article examines the use of a laser diffraction-based system for particle size analysis in this environment.
