Amcol acquires Unimin foundry mixing plants

LEADING BENTONITE producer Amcol International Corp. has acquired Unimin Corp.'s Customix metalcasting blending facilities, through its US bentonite producing subsidiary American Colloid Co. (ACC). Amcol, based at Arlington Heights, Illinois acquired the Unimin foundry sand blending facilities at Belvidere, Illinois, Archbold, Ohio, and Wadsworth, Ohio. Production capacities of the plants were not disclosed. Gary Morrison, president of ACC told IM: "We saw that we were supplying the bentonite as the largest component to the blending facility, and decided it made sense and was easier to own it and operate the facilities ourselves."
