The incidence and persistence of genital mycoplasmas of 25 normal guinea pigs were investigated by culturing swabs collected over a 63‐day period. Mycoplasmas were consistently isolated from two of the five males, but only once each from three of the 20 females. The 16 strains isolated were divided into four groups. Representative strains of one group were identified asMycoplasmasp. (group 7 of Leach 1973), by growth inhibition, growth precipitation and fluorescent antibody tests. The other groups were provisionally classified asMycoplasmaspp. and anAcholeplasmas
