The present paper describes the results of investigations on the solubility, physical and oxidation stability, protective properties and corrosivity of extraction products of peat and brown-coal bitumens, shale-tar distillates and products of their chemical modification. A classification has been made of the studied products according to the mechanism of protective action, efficiency and functional usage. Based on these products, there has been developed a broad range of preservative oils, thin-film coatings and corrosion inhibitors, which satisfy the level of present-day requirements for preservation materials for the purposes indicated.
