Indian ports saw a 24 increase in thermal coal imports at major ports between April and July, according to data from the Indian Ports Association. Nine ports handled 32.5 million t, up from 26.3 million over the same period in 2014. The Port of Paradip handled the most thermal coal with imports of 10.2 million t - almost a third of the total - up from 8.9 million t in 2014. It also handled almost 3 million t of metallurgical coal. Overall, metallurgical coal imports were steady at 10.7 million t.
