Positive isolation of pure, viable cells for cell culture

A method has been developed to provide the most effective preparation of cells for culturing. Starting from a heterogeneous sample, specific cell populations can be isolated and subsequently grown in culture. Magnetic separation techniques axe routinely used to isolate cells for downstream applications including cultures. Specific magnetic beads (Dynabeads~R, Dynal AS, Norway) coated with antibodies can be added to a tube containing blood or mononuclear cells (MNC). The beads bind to specific target cells via surface antigens. Bead bound cells are separated using a magnet (MPC~R, Dynal), and unwanted cells are removed.
