Traditional methods of planning, scheduling, and control have proved to be unequal to the problems encountered in the complex operations of modern industry. There are many organisations to whom the advent of a new technique is seen as a panacea for all its ills. One finds senior management totally uninformed as to the technique itself and vague as to the reasons for adopting this technique, other than corporate 'keeping up with the Joneses'.
