A lot of confusion exist in the market about the function of Rotorvane, with very poor knowledge even amongst consultants who act as advisors to tea factory owners. Let there be no doubt that the idea of larger sized Rotorvane produces more tea andtackles larger leaf due to indifferent plucking is a totally wrong concept. ROTORVANE IS ESSENTIALLY A PRE-CONDI-TIONER FOR CTC MACHINETO GIVE PRE-TWISTTO THE LEAF BEFORE CTC SO THAT THE TWISTING FUNCTION BY SMALL DIMENSIONS OF HELIX OF CTC ROLLER IS MADEEASIER. This objective of Rotorvane operation is achieved by the pressure developed during operation to match the capacity of the CTC. 15" Rotorvane was first invented before the days of continuous, online operation of CTC/ Rotorvane and was made suitable for 2 nos. 48" CTCs fed manually from the leaf from one 15" Rotorvane with a speed of 45 rpm, giving adequate pressure to green leaf of about 1700 kg of withered leaf. Any reduction in quantity would automatically reduce the pressure. To match the different connotations of CTC the speed of the Rotorvane was adjusted with an approximate formula of 37 kg of withered leaf per rpm.
