A study on mechanical pruning

Pruning is one of the most important agricultural practices in tea cultivation, which has a great influence on productivity. It primarily governs frame development, ensures frame sanitation, controls plucking table height and rejuvenates or stimulates vegetative growth. The impact of pruning on the growth of tea bush was emphasised by Dr Gadd in 1931 as "Pruning in tea science resembles a surgical operation in medical science." The recovery after pruning depends on vigour of the bush, environmentalfactors, method or style of pruning including bush sanitation and other post pruning practices. Failure to do a proper pruning could lead to poor recovery, bush debilitation and death. It is, therefore, very important to adopt proper pruning practices atthe correct time.
