Research produced by scientists from the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center (TX, USA) has suggested that, contrary to current treatment guidelines, radiation therapy after breast conserving in early-stage breast cancer patients can improve patient outcomes, potentially preventing the need for mastectomy at a later date.In a previous large study, treatment with tamoxifen alone resulted in a slightly higher incidence of cancer recurrence than tamoxifen with radiation therapy; however, there was no difference in mastectomy rates or overall survival.
