Tea in Arunachal Pradesh

Among the seven states of North East India, known as Seven Sisters, Arunachal Pradesh is one of them which has 8900 sqkm of area. Though tribal language is in vogue, Hindi, Assamese, English, Nepali is known by almost everybody. The topography and meteorological conditions of Arunachal Pradesh is more or less similar to that of its neighbouring state of Assam and favourable for tea cultivation. Unfortunately, few had ventured for the cultivation of tea in Arunachal Pradesh in a commercial way 10-12years back. But two companies name. Iv M/s Siang Tea & Industries (P) Ltd and Chow Aloung Agro Ltd came forward to establish gardens, Donypolo Tea Estate and Sreenanda Tea Estate, and they were guided by the Calcutta-based TM and MC Pvt Ltd. Since then atotal of 3782.83 hectares have been registered with Tea Board (upto 1997-98) and approximately 50 percent of the area has already been under plantation.
