In the post-WTO era, international tea business is not the same as it used to be in times of our fathers and forefathers. Although it is 18 years since the WTO regime came into operation, planters and marketing executives of most tea producing nationsare yet to understand the nuances of succeeding over the challenges in the current economic scenario. "So, our thrust at the international programme on Advanced Tea Plantation Management was in reorienting the executives from different countries of Asiaand Africa to identify the challenges in the current millennium, grasp the supply-demand developments in the post-WTO era, handle those strategies which will help each country and the tea company concerned to register a path of growth", Director of Kothari Agricultural Management Centre (KAMC) Dr AVK Iyengar, who led the deliberations, told me.
