On the sidelines of the 117th UPASI Conference, trading sources told me that Egypt has come to India with volumes of tea orders. Egyptian purchase would keep Indian tea auctions buoyant in coming weeks. This came even as India Tea Promotion Centre (JTPC), Cairo, has expressed apprehensions on the quality of tea imported from India by Egyptian Government agencies."Exporters to Egypt are active at the auctions here. Egyptian Government agency, EI Nasr, is importing teas. The proposal is to import as much as 2,000 tonnes in a month's time. So, the market will remain buoyant for the teas Egypt buys", an auctioneer told me.
