In an institution of this kind there are certain fundamental prerequisites for success: the Superintendent must be the right man for the Post. He must enjoy the complete trust and support of the directing or governing body, and in view of the extremeyouth of many of the trainees, politics of any sort must be excluded and severely penalized. Politics in any training establishment not only un-der-mines authority, but also serves as a handicap to initiative and professional loyalty. As regards having the right man for the Post, no better choice could have been made than Sri S. R. Das, who succeeded Mr. Ansel! as Superintendent. A large man whose calm yet humourous features proclaim great breadth of vision and ability, his gentlemanly tact, understanding and ebullient enthusiasm, besides his expert engineering knowledge, have not only worked wonder in laying the future course of the institution on firm foundation, but also achieved something of a miracle in winning the confidence and support of the planting clientele of the former Ansell and Sons within a few months of the change of ownership.
