Quite a long time ago, in the early seventies of this century, Birendra Chandra Ghosh, Vice Chairman of Indian Tea Planters' Association, Jalpaiguri, for the years 1948, 1949 and 1950, prepared a valuable paper on the development of tea industry in the District of Jalpaiguri, covering a period of hundred years, 1869-1968. In the preparation of this paper the author consulted some of the old records and books, available only in the Record Room of the District Collectorate and of the Divisional Commissioner, Jalpaiguri. As this paper is enriched with information adequate in documenting Jalpaiguri's tea industry in the yester years, this journal has been serialising the chronicle.
