FOCUS IS ON THE LEATHER INDUSTRY

摘要

Since the mid fifties leather industry has been in the focus,as a valuable exchange earning,export oriented and labour intensive industry in India.Despite the entry of many non-traditional industries like gems and jewellery,chemicals and engineering products in the export scenario,leather industry has been able to hold its own prominent position in exportable commodities from India and has earned an export income of over US 2.38 billion during the year 2004-05 recording a growth of over 13.7% over the previous year-not withstanding the adverse and uncertain conditions in the U.S.and E.U countries over the last two years.
