Results of a study of plastic strain in metals and alloys using the flow-curve method are presented. The interaction of various factors in the system "specimen - testing machine" capable of affecting the plastic flow and mechanical properties of metal specimens is considered. A need for the development of a general-purpose testing machine to study the nature of plastic flow is emphasized.
