A new active ingredient, sedaxane, for protecting root health and controlling soil-borne Rhizoctonia spp. and seed-borne diseases inwinter cereals

Seed and soil-borne plant pathogens are responsible for a range of diseases in winter cereals including damping off and foot rots. Chemical seed treatments can offer protection against seed and soil pathogens, however, efficacy can vary depending on the target species. The objective of this study was to establish whether a novel seed treatment based on sedaxane was active against the predominant Rhizoctonia spp. known to affect winter wheat in the UK. Results from this study demonstrate activity against Rhizoctonia solani AG-8, Rhizoctonia cerealis and Microdochium spp. as well as effects on above and below ground biomass. The relevance for the control of seed and soil-borne pathogens in winter wheat is discussed.
