This paper gives the results of investigations involving the use of a new method which employs a pulsed jet diaphragm discharge (JDD) in vacuum 1 and makes it possible to produce both submicron clusters and micron fractal-like aggregates of different morphological and chemical structures. Note that a diaphragm discharge in plasma jets is a convenient source for obtaining high-temperature products of erosion from any starting solid material. This discharge may be formed in any gas medium, and the discharge current is easily controlled. The dependences of the thermodynamic parameters of a number of substances in jets and the spatial-time structure of discharge jets have been studied in sufficient detail 2.
