Eight new metal hydrazine phenylacetate complexes of the type M(N2H4)2(C6H5CH2COO)2, where M = Mg(II), Mn(II), Fe(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II) or Cd(II) have been synthesised and characterized by chemical analyses, molar conductance, magnetic susceptibility and electronic and infrared spectral studies. Their thermal reactivity has been ascertained by thermogravimetric (TG) and derivative thermogravi-metric (DTG) studies. In all the complexes N2H4acts as a bridging bidentate neutral ligand, coordinating through both the nitrogen atoms and C6H5-CH2COO as a monodentate monoanion. All the complexes are polymeric.
