摘要

The vast ocean around us occupying 71 percent of the globe, has a very old and fascinating story to tell -the story of the evolution of life, of maritime activities leading to establishment of sea-borne empires and discovery of new lands, of man's quest to understand the mysterious deep and thereby building up the science of oceanography. The attempts to give a rational account of the origin and nature of the sea are as old as the science itself. With a view to popularise science amongst the general public, especially the students. Department of Ocean Development (DOD) and Geological Society of India have come together and brought out a short illustrated multicolour booklet on ocean sciences, titled "Story of the Oceans".
