FEATURE Houston—Bakken Shale wells are becoming more economic, oil companies, analysts and government officials say, and are at the point where efficient operators can reap reasonable profits at lower oil prices. Oil companies in the North Dakota and Montana play have become leaner during the recent industry downturn and have slashed breakeven oil prices for the Bakken to $40/b and even lower for top operators, according to North Dakota Pipeline Authority Director Justin Kringstad.
