Camilo Cela-Conde, an anthropologist, and Francisco Ayala, an evolutionary biologist and philosopher of science, have teamed up to write what is intended to be (to quote from the blurb on the back cover) a "... comprehensive overview of hominid evolution, synthesizing data and approaches from fields as diverse as physical anthropology, evolutionary biology, molecular biology, genetics, archaeology, psychology and philosophy... It will be suitable for both senior undergraduate and graduate level students...(and) will also appeal to a more general audience seeking a readable, up-to-date and inclusive treatment of human origins and evolution." Noble intentions and high aspirations indeed, but alas the execution falls somewhat short.
