We have studied and compared two configurations for synchronous demultiplexer as a simple interface between ultra-fast optical data signal and base rate tributary channels in future photonic networks. We demonstrated simultaneous clock recovery and demultiplexing scheme using a single optically controlled switch in an electro-optic feedback loop. As an alternative scheme, tone generation in a passive OTDM multiplexer was also demonstrated. The latter scheme offers simple and robust configuration for 160 Gbit/s and beyond.
