The present study was carried out to study the pathomorphological and hematobiochemical alterations induced by oral administration for alpha-cypermethrin in rats for 28 days. Ten inbred Albino Wistar rats in each group were daily administered with alpha-cypermethrin at dose rate of 5.83 mg/kg, 7.25 mg/kg, 14.5 mg/kg, respectively, with dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) control group. The effect of alpha-cypermethrin was assessed by studying the various parameters viz. clinical, Weekly body weight gain, hemato-biochemi-cal and pathomorphological alterations It was observed that alpha-cypermethrin administered at 7.25 mg/kg and 14.50 mg/kg for a period of 28 days induced toxicity symptoms in rats and showed decrease in body weight, sweating on back and spayedhind limbs. Hematological parameters viz. Hb, PCV and TEC revealed significant decrease in treated groups as compared to control. Plasma biochemical parameters viz. ALT, AST and ALP revealed significant increase in all the treated groups. Pathomorphological lesions induced by alpha-cypermethrin toxicity were of vascular, degenerative and necro-biotic in nature and were dose dependant. Liver, kidney and heart were the most affected target organs of alpha-cypermethrin intoxication in rats.
