Acute plumbism in a Pomeranian dog- a case report

A successfully treated case of acute plumbism in a male Pomeranian dog is reported and discussed. Gastrointestinal and neurological symptoms, suspected access to battery scrubs and laboratory findings, i.e. higher number of metarubrocytes and basophilic stippling in erythrocytes accompanied by 35% PCV and very high blood lead concentration led to the diagnosis of acute plumbism. D-penicillamine was used successfully as a chelating agent along with other supportive drugs and the dog recovered uneventfully.
