Nutritional haemoglobinuria in buffaloes in Changar area of Himachal Pradesh.

This paper dealt with the occurrence of nutritional haemoglobinuria in buffaloes in the Changar area of Himachal Pradesh. Two buffaloes were presented with a history of anorexia, dullness, weakness and passing of coffee-coloured urine. Four buffaloes died after showing similar manifestations. Nutritional haemoglobinuria recorded in the buffaloes at village Sansai was manifested by coffee-coloured urine, anorexia, ruminal atony, subnormal temperature, polypnoea, tachycardia, icteric mucous membranes and jugular pulsation. Haemato-biochemical examination revealed anaemia, hypophosphataemia and hypocalcaemia. Treatment with parenteral and oral phosphorus supplementation along with supportive therapy was successful.
