Efficacy of Ipecachuanha in treatment of blood in milk

Presence of blood in milk is often recorded in dairy animals and leads to economic losses due to discarded milk and cost of therapy. Various researchers have suggested the oral use of Ipecachuanha, a homeopathic remedy, in the treatment of cows showing blood tinged milk(Mcleod, 1992; Harndall, 1995; Rush, 1999 and Ruddock, 1999). However oral therapy has a disadvantage of frequent administration that sometimes become difficult for the owners. Therefore, the present study was designed to assess the efficacy of Ipecachuanha, administered subcutaneously and to compare the cost involved with the cost of conventional antibiotic therapy.
