摘要

Chronic fluorosis, a global problem in both humanbeings and animals is manifested mainly in two forms- dental and osteofluorosis. Indian sub-continent is rich in fluoride bearing minerals which comprises only 0.065% of earth's crust (Kaul, 1994). Therefore, soil and water are highly contaminated with fluoride and can produce toxicity either through drinking water or vegetation grown on highly contaminated soil. Rajiv Gandhi National Drinking Water Mission (RGNDWM) has declared as many as 15 states ofIndia as endemic for fluorosis where large human population are affected with this. Literatures revealed prevalence of hydrofluorosis in bovine in Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh (Dwivedi et al, 1997), Punjab (Sharma et al., 1997), Rajasthan (Choubisa,1999) and Orissa (Maiti et al., 2002). In addition to pathological changes in bone and teeth, high fluoride level also interferes the function of liver, kidney and haemopoietic system. Present study describes the effect of endemic fluorosis on some haematological parameters of cattle and goats (non-fluorotic).
