Cimpor’s Portuguese cement sales down 40pc

Portugese cement maker Cimpor’s sales in its home market fell by 40pc in the first quarter from a year earlier, as weakness in southern European economies hit the construction sector. But overall group sales were higher year-on-year on strong performances by parts of the business acquired in a recent asset swap with InterCement Austria Holdings.
