Field studies conducted during kharif 1996 and 1997 on efficacy of fenoxaprop-p-ethyl (50, 70 and 100 g/ha) at 14 and 21 days after sowing (DAS). alone and tank mixing of lower rates (50 and 70 g/ha) with lactofen (90, 120 and 150 g/ha) at 21 DAS revealed the effective control of Echinochloa crusgalli 100 g/ha at 21 DAS, but when it was tank mixed with lactofen, its bioefficacy was reduced. Lactofen at varying rates controlled broadleaf weeds only and showed loxicity to the crop though the crop recovered later on. The higher weed control efficiency was noted by fenoxaprop-p-ethyl applied 100 g/ha at 21 DAS (66%) followed by similar rate at 14 DAS (60.3%) as against 76% in hand weeding. On the basis of the two years' mean, seed yield was highest under hand weeding (1813 kg/ha) followed by fenoxaprop-p-ethyl 100 g/ha at 21 DAS (1632 kg/ha) and both were on par to each other. The higher level of fenoxaprop-p-ethyl (70 g/ha) and lactofen also gave substantially higher yields than weedy control.
