Occurrence of FMD outbreaks in Lahaul and Spiti districts of Himachal Pradesh.

Foot and mouth disease (FMD) outbreaks were recorded in cattle (n=245), sheep and goats (n=500) in Lahaul and Spiti districts of Himachal Pradesh due to the O type FMD virus. Morbidity and mortality rates of 100 and 14.40% in cattle and 80 and 20% in sheep and goats were recorded, respectively. The main clinical signs included pyrexia, anorexia and vesicular lesions on buccal mucosa, feet and udder. The manifestations were mild in sheep and goat compared to cattle.
