Effect of fruit thinning on fruit drop, leaf: fruit ratio, yield and return bloom in kinnow mandarin

The area and production of kinnow mandarin is increasing because of its wider adaptability to different agroclimatic conditions, precocious bearing, high-yield potential and better fruit quality. However, maiden overbearing which is sometimes to suicidal levels, results in the decline of tree in subsequent years or tree collapse in the very next year, The declining symptoms include retardation of growth, chlortic foliage, premature defoliation, twig dieback and unhealthy appearance. Obviously, crop regulation may help to overcome this problem. However, little information is available on judicious fruit thinning in this upcoming fruit of Punjab. Therefore, effect of plant-growth regulators on fruit thinning, yield and return bloom in kinnow was studied.
