Frost tolerance in potato genotypes was evaluated in replicated (188 genotypes consisting of 139 Solanum tuberosum lines, 39 cultivars and 10 advance hybrids) and non-replicated (184 genotypes consisting of 156 S. tuberosum lines and 28 advance hybrids) trials initiated in Uttar Pradesh, India, during 2005. No genotype was completely devoid of foliage injury due to frost. In the replicated trial, 13 genotypes (CP nos. 1987, 1998, 2017, 2194 and 3756; Kufri Arun; MS/92-1090; MS/93-1344; MS/95-117; MS/95-1309; MS/97-621, MS/98-6955; and MS/98-7208) were moderately tolerant of frost (20% foliage injury) and 16 genotypes (Kufri Anand, Kufri dewa, advance hybrid MS/97-1606, and CP nos. 1850, 2016, 2025, 2052, 2150, 2170, 3757, 3763, 3764, 3770, 3771, 3780 and 3781) were slightly tolerant of frost (21-30% foliage injury). In the non-replicated trial, 6 genotypes (MS/90-512, MS/92-3146, and CP nos. 2133, 2308, 2310 and 2321) were tolerant of frost (<10% foliage injury).
