Studies on the evaluation of rootstocks for Kinnow mandarin under north Indian conditions.

The performance of Kinnow mandarin grafted on the following rootstocks was evaluated in Abohar, Punjab, India: Jatti Khatti (Citrus jambhiri), Karun Jamir (C. aurantium), Shekwasha (C. depressa), Jambhiri (C. jambhiri), Pectinifera (C. depressa), Estes rough lemon (C. jambhiri) and Cleopatra (C. reshni). Tree volume and percentage of survival of healthy trees at 18 years after planting (in 1988) were greatest on Jatti Khatti (96.24 m3 and 83.33%, respectively). This rootstock registered the highest mean fruit yield (796 fruits per tree, which was equivalent to 144 kg) and lowest percentage of declined trees on the 18th year (16.67%). The rootstock had no significant effects on scion/stock ratio and crop quality.
