In-vitro clonal propagation of Kagzi lime (Citrus aurantifolia Swingle)

摘要

Kagzi lime is an important cultivar of citrus in terms of commercial plantations and multipurpose uses. Micropropagation is one of the major horticultural applications of plant tissue culture. Different citrus species have been regenerated from nucellar tissue of fertilized (or unfertilized) ovules. The availibility of ovules at right stage of development is for only very short period. Furthermore, juvenile characteristics and delayed bearing are disadvantages in production of true to the type and virus-free citrus plants from nucellus (Chaturvedi and Mitra, 2). Propagation from non-nucellar vegetative tissue would be desirable and the present study was undertaken in 2004 to develop a protocol for large scale production of Kagzi lime plantlets through tissue culture.
