This is the most volatile bit of land in the country. It is the mad Suffolk coast, an area that can't make up its mind whether it is land or sea. It is home to an immensity of sky, a vast stretch of sogginess, a demented atmosphere of enthralling bleakness, marsh harriers that dance before the church tower, a distant but eminently reachable pub and a sea wall that is losing its battle.
