The presence of Diabetic Risk Factors in School going Children : Scope for implementation of Preventive Strategies

摘要

Type 2 diabetes is thought of as a disease of middle aged and elderly with typical onset at 40 years. Recent data shows that this middle aged disease is being seen in children increasingly. About 10% children presenting with diabetes were diagnosed as type 2 diabetes is shown in a recent 10 country Asian study. Childhood diabetes heralds many years of disease with attendant increased risk of full range of micro and macro vascular complications and reduce the life expectancy by 20 years especially those with multiple risk factors like dyslipidemia, hypertension, NASH, sleep apnea and depression.
